Description

The Lindberghs visit China

Vintage textured matte-finish 10.5 x 7.5 photo of the Lindeberghs' Lockheed Sirius seaplane 'Tingmissartoq' on Lotus Lake in China, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "For Fred C. Meier, From Charles A. Lindbergh" and "(Lotus Lake—Nanking, China—1931), Anne Lindbergh, February 1935.” In fine condition, with lightly trimmed edges. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from Beckett Authentication Services.

In 1931, Charles Lindbergh and his wife Anne Morrow Lindbergh flew to Nanjing, China, as part of their pioneering survey of potential transcontinental air routes. Their journey helped demonstrate the feasibility of long-distance aviation across Asia, combining exploration with diplomatic goodwill during a turbulent period in the region. While in Nanjing, they met with Chinese officials—including Chiang Kai-shek—and observed the political tensions that were rising just before the Japanese invasion of Manchuria later that year.
