Description

Original vintage matte-finish 8 x 9.75 portrait photo of young model Norma Jeane Dougherty, roughly a decade before becoming Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe, posing with a shampoo bottle for Frank & Joseph's Beauty Salon. The reverse bears a stamp indicating that the photo derives from the collection of Kim Goodwin, a talented makeup artist and dedicated Marilyn Monroe fan known for creating one-of-a-kind custom Marilyn Monroe dolls and for his personal collection of vintage Monroe photographs. In very good to fine condition, with light edgewear and two creases to the right side. Encapsulated by PSA as an authentic 'Type II' photograph, circa 1950s.

In December 1945, model Norma Jeane was chosen by the Blue Book agency to pose for a shampoo advertisement sponsored by Frank & Joseph's Beauty Salon. When the young model arrived, photographer Raphael Wolff agreed to the shoot on the condition that her hair be bleached golden blonde. Though hesitant, Norma Jeane was persuaded by her agent, Emmeline Snively, who said that ‘going blonde’ would boost her career. At Frank and Joseph’s salon on Wilshire Boulevard, hairstylist Sylvia Barnhart gradually transformed the model’s ‘brown and frizzy’ hair to an ash blonde color over a span of eight months in 1946.
