Two TLSs from Stan Laurel, both one page and typed on his personal 8 x 10 letterhead, dated February 26, 1959, and March 10, 1959, both addressed to Philip Clendenning. The earlier letter: “Thank you for your enquiry to the Hal Roach Studio requesting my address, your letter was just forwarded on to me this AM. I appreciate very much your kindly interest in L&H, so am enclosing you a little picture – thought you might like to have one as a souvenir.” Includes a glossy 5.5 x 3.5 photo of Laurel and Hardy, which bears facsimile signatures, but is inscribed in ink by Laurel, “Thank you Philip!”
The second letter: “I frankly wouldn’t know which particular film I liked making best, like any other business it was just a days work, some were better than others, depending on the mood you were in. Mr Hardy & I made over 200 films, short & feature lengths, sound & silent. Before we teamed up, we each made many silent comedies, dating back to 1912. I also directed pictures for a while – incidently thats when I met Mr Hardy, I directed him in several films at that time. The wine drinking sequence in ‘Bohemian Girl’ – due you having seen it, there’s little I can tell you about it, except, the ‘Wine’ I drank was ‘Coco Cola.’” In overall fine condition. Accompanied by both original mailing envelopes.
