Original glossy 16 x 12 photo of Tom Waits, pictured with a cigarette and standing next to a large brick wall, originally taken in Amsterdam by Dutch photographer Claude Vanheye, whose Clouds Studios label is affixed to the reverse. In very good condition, with overall small creases and surface dings. The consignor notes that this print was one of a group submitted to Bizarre Straight Records, who chose similar images by Vanheye for the covers and CD booklets for Tom Waits’ The Early Years and The Early Years Vol. 2.
In 2012, the Amsterdam Museum presented the exhibition Claude Vanheye–Famous Popstars that displayed his images of Tom Waits, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Blondie, Kate Bush, Grace Jones, and Michael Jackson, which the museum noted ‘is just a small selection of the international stars who posed for [Vanheye’s] camera…over the past forty years. The exhibition is in honour of Vanheye’s fortieth year as a professional photographer.’
