Description

Rare late 1960s 7˝ UK LTS two-sided acetate pressing of the Beatles' early composition "Love of the Loved," as recorded at their 1962 audition for Decca Records, but never issued in any of their official releases. Instead, Cilla Black recorded it for her debut single, which was produced by George Martin. The acetate disc bears a blue-and-black LTS label with handwritten notation in red ink, "Love of the Loved."

One of the Beatles’ earliest original compositions, “Love of the Loved” was a staple of their early live performances. Believed to date to around 1959, Paul McCartney later recalled writing the song on his Zenith acoustic guitar while walking home to Allerton in Liverpool. Notably, the Beatles’ own recording from the Decca audition remains the only original composition from that session never to receive an official commercial release, though it has appeared on bootlegs beginning in the late 1970s.

As this acetate dates to the late 1960s—predating those bootlegs by nearly a decade—it represents one of the very few contemporary copies produced while the Beatles were still active as a band. Only one other acetate is known: a Dick James Music copy that surfaced twice at major auction houses in the 1990s and was reportedly acquired by Apple.

Condition (VG+): The disc displays a small amount of surface marks and scuffs, but no feelable scratches to the playing surface. The label is clean, showing only proper aging. Lacquer shows no signs of deterioration and plays very well with no skips and some moderate background noise.
