Description

Working illuminated Twitter bird display from the company's New York offices, a nearly six-foot relic of the platform's pre-X identity

Original illuminated Twitter, Inc. ‘bird logo’ display from the company’s New York City headquarters at 249 West 17th Street in Manhattan. Used as a corporate branding fixture within the company's offices, the freestanding display dates to the era when the iconic bird logo served as the public face of Twitter before the platform's 2023 rebranding as X. The display consists of a large internally illuminated Twitter bird silhouette, 42˝ x 34˝ x 5.5˝, mounted atop its original pedestal base, 16˝ x 24˝ x 16˝, which stands at an overall height of 62.5˝. Constructed with a translucent acrylic face set within a painted wooden housing, the display remains operational and retains its original internal illumination, powered through an external adapter. In fine working condition, with light scattered marks and small chips.

Founded in 2006, Twitter transformed global communication through its real-time social networking platform, becoming an indispensable medium for news, politics, entertainment, sports, and cultural discourse. Its bird logo, known internally as ‘Larry,’ a tribute by co-founder Biz Stone to Boston Celtics star Larry Bird, became one of the most recognizable corporate identities of the digital age. Displayed within Twitter’s New York headquarters during the years when the bird logo defined the platform’s public identity, this illuminated fixture survives as a tangible artifact of a company that fundamentally reshaped modern communication.
