Impressive flown large-size American flag carried into lunar orbit aboard the Command Module Endeavor during the Apollo 15 mission, 17.25 x 11.75, signed and flight-certified in the bottom white stripe in black ballpoint, "Flown to the Moon on Apollo 15, July 26–August 7, 1971, Al Worden, Apollo 15 CMP." In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Al Worden, in part: "This letter is to certify that the accompanying flag of the United States of American (measuring 17.25˝ x 11.75˝) was flown into lunar orbit aboard Apollo 15 in the spacecraft 'Endeavour.'"
Also includes a color satin-finish 14 x 11 photo of the Apollo 15 splashdown in the North Pacific Ocean, signed in black felt tip, "Your flag is home safe! Al Worden, Apollo 15 CMP," plus two photos of Worden playing 'peek-a-boo' with the flag.
Flown with CMP Al Worden during the Endeavor’s six days in lunar orbit, this exceptional flag orbited the moon a total of 74 times, and now exists as a patriotic extension of one of the Apollo program’s most scientifically rewarding missions. Lunar-flown flags of such prodigious size remain very scarce and highly coveted by collectors.
