Description

Flown heat shield fragment from the Gemini 7 spacecraft, measuring approximately 1.5˝ x .5˝ x .5˝, encased in a 3.75˝ x 1.75˝ x 1.75˝ Lucite block, emblazoned on the front with the contractor's name, "McDonnell." A descriptive plaque is affixed to the reverse: "Souvenir cut from the Gemini VII heat shield which was recovered from the Atlantic on 18 December 1965 after the first space rendezvous and the longest space flight of 14 days. This heat shield protected Astronauts Borman and Lovell from re-entry temperatures of 3100°F." In fine condition.
