James Lovell’s flown embroidered Gemini 7 insignia patch that was carried into low Earth orbit for nearly 14 days during the fourth crewed flight of Project Gemini. The patch, 3.75˝ in diameter, is signed and flight certified on the reverse in black felt tip by its original owner, “Flown, James Lovell,” who has also signed an included 8.5 x 11 letter of certification, which reads: “I hereby certify that the Gemini VII embroidered mission patch that accompanies this letter was flown with me aboard the mission December 4-18, 1965. This patch is from my personal collection of space artifacts and has been in my personal collection since the mission.” In very fine condition.
The fourteen-day Gemini 7 mission doubled the length of time that anyone had been in space, and remained the longest American spaceflight until the Skylab missions of the 1970s—the insignia features an Olympic-inspired torch to symbolize the marathon-like nature of the mission.
