Description

ALS signed “Wm. Gunard,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, May 18, 1877. Addressed from “Ross Fork, Indian Agency, Idaho,” a handwritten letter to G. L. Shoup & Co., in part (spelling and grammar retained): “Your letter…come to hand to day was much suprised to heare that Bill had not been paid When Jim Brinner left me to come back to salmon city he said that he had told both you and mike sporm how i owed a small bill too that he would be responsuble for them so when he started too come back i had know money too pay him for you and he took ever thing i had he took 2 of my horses and my sadle and pack sadle and ropes and 11 Beaver traps and all of my Blankets togeather with all of the skins that we catched all winter know shoup all i want is what is right and squar if he aint man enough after taken all a man had and leaving him a foot to pay them 2 small Bills that i owed in salmon city after saying he was responsible for them and he had to pay thim if i did not that he aint know man and if he dont pay them that i will mak him pay me 5 times the amount when i get my eyes on him Pleas see him and see what he says and rite me if he aint man enough to setle it I will.” Gunard adds a postscript: “i write this to let you know what kind of a gut you have in salmon city and can prove it by 40 men that knows him and he dosent Lyne it to them either.” In fine condition.
