Description

Native American Seneca orator and chief of the Wolf clan (c. 1750–1830) whose Indian name was Sagoyewatha. Original hand-colored 12 x 15.5 lithograph portrait of "Red-Jacket, A Seneca War Chief," showing him wearing the large 'Peace Medal' given to him by George Washington. Imprinted at the bottom: "Published by E. C. Biddle, Philadelphia. Printed & Coloured at I. T. Bowen's Lithographic Establishment No. 94 Walnut St: Entered according to act of Congress in the Year 1837, by E.C. Biddle, in the Clerks Office of the District Court of the Eastern District of Penna." Archivally matted and framed to an overall size of 23.75 x 27.5. In fine condition.
