American etcher, painter, and illustrator from California (1873–1945) whose travels as a working cowboy informed his depictions of the American West. Gorgeous original watercolor painting of a dramatic Western landscape with two riders on horseback, accomplished by Edward Borein on a 7.25 x 4.75 sheet, signed in the lower right corner in ink, "Edward Borein." The scene unfolds under a vast sky streaked with dark clouds and the glowing orange light of sunset. Two horseback riders move quietly across the wide, barren desert, dwarfed by the scale of the open terrain and distant mountains. The overall mood is quiet and contemplative, with a strong sense of space, solitude, and the rugged beauty of the American West. Matted and framed to an overall size of 18.75 x 17. In fine condition.
