Navajo chief (c. 1818–1893) during the 'Long Walk' period, remembered for rallying his nation against the oppression of the United States military. Original 7 x 4 stereoview photograph of Navajo chief Manuelito, published by James Thurlow as part of a "Colorado Views" series, on its original studio mount, with affixed caption: "From Hayden's Survey—No. 134. Navajoe Indians." The chieftain is shown shirtless, holding a rifle in a buckskin scabbard while wearing moccasin boots, a woven Navajo blanket, and beaded necklaces with a saber pendant. In fine condition.
