Description

Vintage matte-finish 5.5 x 7.75 photo of popular entertainer Cad Wilson—a favorite of gold rush–era miners—affixed to its original 6.7 x 9 mount, signed and inscribed on the reverse in ink, "To My Old Friend John, 'who never eats,' Sincerely Yours, Cad Wilson, 'Such a nice girl too.'” In fine condition, with light staining along the edges.

Cad Wilson was a vaudeville performer and dance-hall entertainer who rose to prominence during the Klondike Gold Rush, becoming one of the most popular and notorious 'good-time girls' in Dawson City. Arriving in the Yukon in 1898, she quickly became the highest-paid act in Dawson, known for her charismatic stage presence and her signature song 'Such a Nice Girl, Too.' Her performances, often risqué and highly lucrative, attracted wealthy miners who spent lavishly on her, contributing to her accumulation of significant wealth and a famous gold-nugget belt. After only one season in Dawson, she left the Yukon with tens of thousands of dollars and continued performing elsewhere, cementing her legacy as a colorful and emblematic figure of the Klondike entertainment scene.
