Description

John Wayne's intricately detailed, screen-worn Bohlin spur

John Wayne's personally-owned Bohlin-made Hollywood full-mounted iron spur, worn frequently by Wayne in his movies of the late 1930s and early 1940s, including the Mesquiteer films, where he appeared as the character Stony Brooke in both New Frontier and Wyoming Outlaws (1939). The finely crafted spur features an intricately engraved silver overlay with floral and geometric motifs, engraved inside a diamond with Wayne’s initials, “J.W.” It features a 1 3/4˝ cookie rowel, 2˝ Bohlin domed poppy concho, maker-marked 5/8˝ sterling buckle, keeper, and non-Bohlin tip. The heelband measures approximately 1 1/8˝ wide, with a 3 1/2˝ shank and 2 1/4˝ rowel. In overall fine condition, with expected age cracking to the maker-marked leathers and a small restored portion to the front chap guard overlay. Accompanied by a custom-made horseshoe display stand. A superb, screen-worn Bohlin spur from John Wayne’s early rise as one of Hollywood’s defining Western icons.
