(Walt Disney Studios, 1938) Two original production drawings featuring Ferdinand and the Matador from Ferdinand the Bull, both accomplished in graphite and colored pencil on untrimmed 9 x 6 animation paper. The Ferdinand drawing shows the title bull in a nearly full-figure profile pose with closed eyes and a contented expression; the Matador is pictured in full length, walking angrily with clenched fists and teeth. The character images measure 6.5 x 5.25 (Ferdinand) and 3 x 5.25 (Matador), and both are individually triple-matted and framed to an overall size of 15.5 x 12.5. In overall fine condition. This classic early Disney cartoon won the 1938 Academy Award for Best Short Subject (Cartoons); interestingly, the matador was a caricature of Walt Disney himself.
