(Walt Disney Studios, 1950) Original concept painting by Mary Blair for Cinderella, showing the film's main antagonist, Lady Tremaine—Cinderella's wicked stepmother—and her conniving black cat, Lucifer, seated in her bedroom and giving orders to her bedraggled scullion, Cinderella. The detailed artwork portrays an opulent room with pink walls and luxurious furniture and decor, including a massive gilt-framed mirror, gaudy high-backed chairs, a golden chandelier, and lavishly draped chairs for Tremaine and her feline pet. Accomplished in tempera on 8.5 x 8.75 artist's board. In fine condition, with tack holes to borders. An elaborate, colorful, and meticulously conceived work from a Disney master.
Mary Blair was a concept artist for Disney during the 1940s and early 1950s, working on designs for such films as Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Alice in Wonderland. She also created designs for several Disney attractions (including It's a Small World), and her largest work ever, the multi-story mosaic in Disney World's Contemporary Hotel concourse.
