Group lot of three items signed by David O. Selznick, consisting of an ALS and two DSs, each signed “David O. Selznick,” “D. O. Selznick,” or “DOS,” all relating to the acquisition, development, and adaptation of literary and theatrical properties through International Pictures Inc. Included is an August 18, 1964, letter from entertainment attorney I. Arnold Weissberger concerning motion-picture and dramatization rights to Mother’s Kisses, which bears an ALS from Selznick in blue ballpoint with numerous manuscript comments and instructions; a two-page agreement dated December 11, 1964, relating to Patricia Joudry’s play Let Heaven In, signed in full by Selznick as president of International Pictures Inc. and countersigned by Patricia Joudry Steele, with four additional “DOS” approval initials; and a December 14, 1964, agreement concerning Joudry’s play Goddess on the Couch, signed by Selznick and countersigned by Steele, with a carbon copy signed by both. Also included are two initialed Schedule “A” pages and an initialed rider relating to the dramatization of Jean Ariss’s novel The Shattered Glass. In overall very good to fine condition.
Executed during the final year of Selznick’s career, these documents offer a revealing glimpse into the day-to-day business of one of Hollywood’s most influential independent producers, illustrating his continued pursuit of promising literary and theatrical properties decades after landmark productions such as Gone with the Wind and Rebecca.
