Attractive miniature anchor made from metal reclaimed during the 1927 restoration of the USS Constitution. The anchor measures approximately 2.75˝ x 4˝, with an upper ring and a 3.5˝ wooden stock. The front and rear shanks bear raised text: “This Material Was Taken from U.S. Frigate Constitution.” In fine condition.
From 1927 to 1931, the USS Constitution underwent a major restoration, during which materials removed from the ship—such as copper sheathing, bolts, and nails—were melted down and repurposed into souvenirs. These items, including bookends, ashtrays, and plaques, were sold to the public to raise funds for the restoration and to promote 'Old Ironsides' as a significant American historical icon.
