South African surgeon (1922–2001) who, in 1967, performed the first human-to-human heart transplant. Two matte-finish 4.75 x 6.5 head-and-shoulders portrait photos of pioneering cardiac surgeon Christiaan Barnard, both signed in the lower border, "Ch. Barnard," in blue ink and black felt tip. In overall fine condition, with light edge silvering to one of the images. Accompanied by a compliments sheet from “Professor C. N. Barnard and the members of the Organ Transplantation Team.”
