Description

Two TLSs by Charles Horace and William James Mayo, the brothers who famously co-founded the Mayo Clinic: TLS signed "C. H. Mayo," one page, Mayo Clinic letterhead, June 4, 1927, in part: "In my brother's absence your letter concerning Mr. Oscar Thornley has come to my attention. We shall be glad to have Mr. Thornley come for examination and to do whatever we can for him"; and a TLS signed "W. J. Mayo," one page, personal letterhead, January 23, 1929, in part: "When I returned yesterday from Havana, where I went to attend the Annual Congress of the Pan American Medical Association, I received a letter from Dr. Franklin H. Martin calling my attention, through the kindness of Dr. R. D. McClure, to your splendid biographical sketch of the late Dr. Theodore A. McGraw, of Detroit, in the current number of the Journal of the Michigan State Medical Society…I have read the article with pleasure and appreciation." In very good to fine condition, with trimmed edges to William's letter.

From the personal collection of a lifelong collector, teacher, and traveler with a passion for world history. His collecting years ranged from the 1970s to the present day, meaning that several of the premier pieces have not been on the market in decades.
