Description

Four items signed by Richard Nixon, including three TLSs, each signed “Dick,” one as president and one as vice president, all addressed to his youngest brother, Edward C. Nixon. The presidential letter, on White House letterhead, March 18, 1970, in part: “I write so many letters of commendation to people I do not know that it is especially good to send you a note of congratulations on rescuing the two teen-agers from Puget Sound. We can both identify with the parents of those two girls and I know they must be very grateful you were on duty that day.”

The second letter, Office of the Vice President letterhead, October 6, 1955: “Congratulations on being chosen Honor Man for your Company! I have seen the newspaper clippings and only wish I could have been sitting with the family attending your graduation at the Naval Training Center. As you can imagine, we are even busier than usual here. I was hoping to come to San Francisco on October 7 and be in San Diego on the 11th, and I had hoped I was going to have another chance to have a visit with you. However, I have had to cancel my trip due to the President's absence from Washington, and at the moment do not have any early plans for a trip to California.”

The third letter, personal letterhead, June 26, 1985: “This is just a note to tell you that I had a very good meeting with Chairman Wang yesterday. At the conclusion of our talk I mentioned the fact that you were very interested in trade between the PRC and the United States and he told me that he was looking forward to seeing you in Hong Kong. I hope your plans work out so that you can get together with him because he is highly intelligent and, as you know, one of the top economic powerhouses of the PRC.” Also includes a color satin-finish 11 x 14 photo of Presidents Nixon through Reagan gathered at the White House before departing for Anwar Sadat's funeral in 1981, signed in the lower border in blue felt tip by Nixon. In overall very good to fine condition, with small creases, and overall emulsion spotting, to the signed photo. Accompanied by three original mailing envelopes, one of which bears Nixon’s stamped franking signature.

From the estate of Edward C. Nixon.
