Richard Nixon's beautiful Hutschenreuther porcelain bald eagle sculpture, which he later presented as a gift to his youngest brother, Edward C. Nixon. Designed by master sculptor Gunther Granget, the eagle, which approximately measures 17˝ x 12˝ x 17˝, is depicted in a powerful pose with spread wings and an open beak, its talons grasping the gnarled branches of a tree stump. The underside of the stump features the Hutschenreuther maker’s mark and a pair of affixed labels: “145/1372” and “Lorenz Hutschenreuther, Kunstabteilung, 2904/SA.” The sculpture is set upon a custom wooden base, 14˝ x 16˝ x 2.5˝, which bears a presidential seal set within a laurel wreath. In fine condition, with some scuffs and scratches to the base. Gunther Granget (1932–2010) was a German sculptor who dedicated his work to wildlife and was considered an advocate of realism.
From the estate of Edward C. Nixon.
