American forger (1887-1950?) who specialized in creating fake letters and documents from historical figures like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Benjamin Franklin. Joseph Cosey forgery of a handwritten check signed “Go: Washington,” one page, 7.75 x 2.5, affixed to a larger cardstock mount. A forged check to "the Cashier of the Office of Discount & Deposit—Baltimore," in full: "Will please pay Philip Bartlett Esq. or bearer the sum of Four Hundred dollars and chg the same to my acct." In fine condition, with uniform toning.
