Irish political leader (1775-1847) best known for his tireless efforts on behalf of Catholic Emancipation and the repeal of the Act of Union, which combined Ireland and Great Britain. Two items handwritten and signed by Daniel O'Connell: an exceptional AQS, penned on an off-white 7.25 x 4.5 sheet, which is signed below, “Daniel O'Connell, 7th February 1838,” who adds four lines from Lord Byron’s 1814 poem Lara, A Tale, in full: “Within that Land, was many a malcontent / Who cursed the tyranny, to which he bent / That soil full many a wringing despot saw / Who worked his wantonness in form of Law”; and a hand-addressed and free-franked address panel, 4.75 x 3, addressed by O'Connell to “Mrs. Ellis,” and franked in the lower left, "Daniel O'Connell,” who adds above, “London, February seven, 1838.” Each item is individually affixed to a slightly larger sheet. In overall fine condition, with some light stains.
