Original vintage unused paper table placemat and napkin from the Aunt Jemima Pancake House Restaurant in Frontierland at Disneyland. The colorful scalloped placemat, 14 x 10, features an image of Aunt Jemima with a central ‘biographical’ story and accompanying pictures by N. C. Wyeth, with the border encircled with text: “Throughout the years the friendly face of Aunt Jemima has become familiar to generations of Americans / Today Aunt Jemima’s Community Pancake Days are raising millions of dollars for charities and civic projects and giving her friends the opportunity to meet and know Aunt Jemima in person.” The matching napkin, which measures 13.5 x 13, has a colorful central block of criss-crossing squares and surrounding repeating text: “Aunt Jemima / America’s Pancake Queen.” In overall fine condition, with central vertical and horizontal folds to the placemat.
The Aunt Jemima Pancake House was a featured restaurant in Frontierland at Disneyland from August 9, 1955, to January 1962. It later ran under the names Aunt Jemima’s Kitchen (July 17, 1962 to 1970), Magnolia Tree Terrace (1970 to 1971), and then River Belle Terrace. In the early days of Disneyland, Aunt Jemima herself would greet guests outside her restaurant. Her cheerful disposition made her a well-loved fixture in Frontierland. The restaurant was operated by Quaker Oats from 1955 to 1967, then Disneyland took over the operation until 1970, though Quaker Oats remained as a sponsor.
