Description

ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, October 4, 1845. Handwritten letter to P. Henry Hatch, in part: "I need not assure you, I feel convinced, of the great interest I take in all such establishments as the Crosby Hall Institution; or of the great store I set by such Institutions as that with which you have honored me. I repeat to say, however, that I cannot at this time have the pleasure of occupying your chair. My engagements are so very numerous that I have been obliged to decline many similar proposals from many places. And I cannot make an exception in this instance, without giving offence in other quarters." In very good to fine condition, with light creasing and soiling.
