An important publication documenting Massachusetts-born Jonathan Carver’s ambitious expedition in search of a Northwest Passage to the Pacific Ocean. Motivated by the substantial reward offered by the British crown and Parliament for successfully mapping a western route to the Pacific, Carver became the first English-speaking explorer to venture west of the Upper Mississippi River. His historically significant and immensely popular travel narrative is credited with helping inspire Lewis and Clark’s later explorations of the American West.
