Early and scarce pre-production prototype of the Apple 3.5˝ floppy disk drive (A9M0106), introduced in 1986 with the Apple IIGS, produced for internal use at Apple with a smooth texture to the case, allowing easier identification of possible structural weaknesses. The unit features the colorful rainbow-striped Apple logo on the front, with the manufacturer's label on the bottom: "Unified Drive, Model MPX-036, Made in Japan, No. 10040, 0-241-671-01." In fine condition.
