Introduced in February 1984, Macworld magazine became the most popular Macintosh-focused magazine in North America; the premier issue is scarce and desirable in its own right. This rare, signed example initially originated from the collection of a senior product manager at Apple's corporate office in Cupertino, CA, from 1991-1998, who acquired the Jobs autograph. It was sold by RR Auction in 2022, and the buyer subsequently obtained Wozniak's signature at a conference in Toronto ('Rare Earth Mines, Magnets, Motors 2025') on September 22, 2025. Also includes a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
Accompanied by a detailed letter of provenance documenting the history of the piece, including an image of Wozniak with the magazine. In full: "I am writing to document the provenance of my copy of Macworld magazine, Volume 1, Number 1 (February 1984), signed on the cover by Apple co-founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. I acquired this magazine directly from RR Auction in 2022, where it was offered as part of their sale of Apple-related historical material.
At the time of purchase, RR Auction provided detailed provenance from the individual who originally obtained Steve Jobs’s signature. He was a senior product manager at Apple’s corporate offices in Cupertino from 1991–1998, deeply involved with the development and strategy of QuickTime and other multimedia technologies of that era.
He had kept a first-issue copy of Macworld magazine in his office. When Jobs returned to Apple in the late 1990s and met with product managers to review ongoing technologies, he brought this magazine into the meeting. After demonstrating QuickTime’s capabilities to Jobs and discussing the technology’s future, he asked Steve to sign the magazine. The product manager later noted that he did not realize at the time that Jobs rarely granted autograph requests, making the signing all the more remarkable. The magazine remained in his possession until the 2022 RR Auction sale, at which time I purchased it.
Having long admired both Apple co-founders, it was my goal to complete the dual signature by meeting Steve Wozniak in person. I had the opportunity on Monday, September 22, 2025, during the opening cocktail event for the ‘Rare Earth Mines, Magnets, Motors 2025’ conference in Toronto. The reception was held at the Hockey Hall of Fame, and Wozniak attended accompanied by his wife, Janet Hill.
When I approached him with the magazine, he was exceptionally welcoming and generous with his time. Upon seeing the 1984 Macworld cover—already bearing Steve Jobs’s autograph—Woz smiled and added his own inscription in blue ink: 'Think Different! Woz.'
During our conversation, he also signed my Ritz-Carlton room key card and gifted me a sheet from his well-known $2 notepad, which he signed as well. I have met him on several occasions, and his kindness and enthusiasm have been consistent each time."
