Metal structural bracket attested as deriving from the LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin airship, the German rigid dirigible built by Luftschiffbau Zeppelin that first flew in 1928 and, under the command of Hugo Eckener, pioneered long-distance passenger airship travel, including its famous 1929 round-the-world flight, before being retired in 1937. The light green bracket measures 4.25 ˝ x 3.25˝ and is stamped above as “232875.” Mounted and framed to an overall size of 8˝ x 9.5˝; annotated sheet to frame backing reads: “Graf Zeppelin airship, Original aluminum frame piece / After the Hindenburg disaster, the Zeppelin was retired and then broken up. The aluminum was reused for the German war industry. The airship traveled over one million miles. This piece was found in Hangar No. One at Lakehurst, New Jersey.” In fine condition.
This fragment derives from the collection of Kevin Buckley, a meteorologist for the New York Yankees. A deeply passionate collector, Buckley founded Time Passages LLC with the intention of sharing and selling items from his collection; however, according to his sister, health challenges prevented him from fully realizing the venture before his passing.
