Two signed letters from former American presidents Grover Cleveland and William H. Taft:
ALS from Cleveland, one page, 4 x 5.75, 816 Madison Avenue letterhead, November 5, 1891, handwritten letter, in full: “I have received the photograph of your little son and my namesake and I thank you for it. His appearance in the picture certainly gives promise that he will do his father great credit and reflect honor on the name which has been given him.”
TLS signed “Wm. H. Taft,” one page, 7 x 9.25, personal letterhead, November 14, 1916, letter to Luther Brewer, in full: “I write to express to you the pleasure I had in the luncheon at Cedar Rapids, due to your initiation and hospitable attention. It was a unique occasion, and one the recollection of which I shall continue to enjoy. I shall be glad to come into the neighborhood of Cedar Rapids as soon as I can.”
Both are individually matted and framed with portraits (the Cleveland bearing a facsimile signature) to overall sizes of 19.5 x 18 and 17.5 x 13. In overall fine condition, with a light stain to the upper left corner of the Taft letter.
