Description

Pioneering Texas Instruments TI-99/4 Home Computer, measuring approximately 15˝ x 10.5˝ x 3˝, identified on the bottom as "Model PHC0004H, Serial No. 0899809, LTA1180." Based on the Texas Instruments TMS9900 microprocessor, the TI-99/4 was the first 16-bit home computer. It features a built-in diminutive, calculator-style QWERTY keyboard—often cited as one of the computer's weak points—and ROM cartridge slot for solid state software. Untested and in very good to fine cosmetic condition, with some scuffing to the case. Accompanied by its original user's reference guide.

Released in October 1979, the TI-99/4 was designed to compete with popular 8-bit systems like the Apple II and Commodore PET, offering advanced graphics and sound capabilities for its time. However, its high price, limited software library, and reliance on expensive peripherals hindered its success. In 1981, TI released an improved version, the TI-99/4A, which became more popular due to a lower price and better design. Despite its short lifespan, the TI-99/4 line is remembered for pioneering 16-bit computing in the home market.
