Description

Vintage photograph album, 12.75˝ x 9˝, dated between 1933 and 1936, containing over 275 period photographs taken by a German family as they traveled across prewar Europe, namely Germany, the Czechoslovak Republic, France, Italy, and Switzerland. Among the many beautiful scenery shots is a group of eight Zeppelin-related photos, the majority taken at Frankfurt am Main (FFM), a major hub for Zeppelin airships, and the site of the Rhine-Main Air and Airship Port opening in 1936. The photos, 2.75˝ x 3.25˝ and 3.5˝ x 2.75˝ (approximately), feature four images of a grounded LZ 129 Hindenburg in its airship hangar, two images of the FFM airport, one image of a Zeppelin “Hindburg” soaring over Frankfurt, and one image of Hugo Eckener tipping his hat to a welcoming crowd. Eckener (1868–1954) served as the manager of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin during the inter-war years, and also as the commander of the famous Graf Zeppelin for most of its record-setting flights, including the first airship flight around the world. These achievements made him the most successful airship commander in history. In overall fine condition, with some damage only to the album's covers.
