Description

Early Snow White concept drawings of Dopey and Doc by one of Disney's Nine Old Men, Woolie Reitherman

(Walt Disney Studios, 1937) Original storyboard drawing by Wolfgang Reitherman, one of Disney's Nine Old Men, featuring early hand-drawn renderings of Doc and Dopey from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, signed and inscribed in black ballpoint, “Jim Mrotek, All the best, Woolie.” Accomplished in graphite and colored pencil on untrimmed 5 x 6.25 artist paper marked " 47,” the drawing shows the two dwarfs in concerned front-facing poses, with both Dopey and Doc tapping their heads in deep thought. Total character image measures 5 x 3.5. In fine condition, with pin and staple holes to the corners. An uncommonly early concept drawing of the classic Disney dwarfs, drawn at the desk of Woolie Reitherman, whose penchant for action-oriented animation led to his animating the slave in the Magic Mirror in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Monstro in Pinocchio, and the climactic dinosaur fight in Igor Stravinsky's ‘Rite of Spring’ segment of Fantasia.
