(Walt Disney Studios, 1999) Original limited edition cel celebrating the 1941 Disney classic Dumbo, entitled ‘Bathtime for Dumbo,’ numbered 152/375, which depicts the large-eared baby elephant enjoying a bath in a large wooden bucket. The cel, which also features weather ripple special effects, is placed on a matching color giclee background. Image measures 8.25 x 7 (Dumbo and water), with a mat opening of 10 x 10. Beautifully cloth-matted and framed to an overall size of 18.25 x 18.25. In fine condition. A wonderful limited edition Dumbo cel that sold out immediately upon its release in 1999.
Accompanied by a detailed certificate of authenticity from Disney Enterprises, which reads, in part: “This is a limited edition of hand-painted, ink-enhanced character cel set-ups depicting the title character from Walt Disney's Dumbo (1941). This image, 'Bathtime for Dumbo,' inspired Sequence 6, Scene 4 of the classic animated feature: after a trying day, outcast elephant Dumbo finds warmth and solace in a cozy bath drawn by his loving mother.
The Walt Disney Studios has created this character image using traditional animation techniques. The original animation drawings of the character were transferred to acetate cels by a special six-step xerographic process. Artists of The Walt Disney Studios Ink and Paint Department then enhanced the cels with 2 hand-inked lines and hand-painted each of the cels in the edition with 11 Disney-approved acrylic colors.”
