Description

Peter Colt (1748-1824) served as Connecticut state treasurer from 1790-1794 and paymaster in New England and eastern New York during the Revolutionary War. He was the grandfather of Samuel Colt, gun inventor and manufacturer. Grouping of four Revolutionary War-dated partly-printed DSs signed by Peter Colt, each one page, ranging in size from 8 x 3.75 to 8 x 4.5, all dated June 1, 1780. Each document is a State of Connecticut promissory note, individually affirming that the state owes money to Nehemiah Turner, Henry Smith, Samuel Hall, and Abner Marsh, all of whom have “served in the Connecticut Line of the Continental Army…pursuant to an Act of the General Assembly, held at Hartford.” Signed boldly at the bottom of each by Colt as state treasurer. In overall fine condition.
