Description

Group lot of six Olympic commemorative and participation medals from the collection of longtime IOC member James Worrall, including:

Participation medal from the Sapporo 1972 Winter Olympics. Bronze, 60 mm, 136 gm, by Shigeo Fukuda. The front depicts the Sapporo Olympic emblem; the reverse features a stylized athlete with arrows on his arms and legs. Complete with its clear plastic case and rare paper slipcover, which bears a couple of slight tears to the top flap.

Two commemorative medals issued for the Sapporo 1972 Winter Olympics. The first medal, issued by the Governor of Hokkaido, 63 mm, 150 gm, features a front with the Sapporo Games emblem with encircled English text, and the reverse features an embossed outline of the Japanese island of Hokkaido; the second medal, issued by the Japan Sport Fund Raising Association, 51 mm, 104 gm, features the Sapporo logo with English and Japanese text, and the reverse shows a muscular athlete with crossed arms in relief. Both include their original presentation cases.

Two participation medals from the Munich 1972 Summer Olympics. Both steel, 49 mm, 144 gm, by Fritz Konig. The fronts depict the Munich Games emblem over two lines, "XX. Olympiade, Munchen 1972"; the reverse sides show Olympic rings over two hands, one holding an olive branch. Both are housed in their original Lucite cases.

Participation medal issued for the Calgary 1988 Winter Olympics. Bronze, 64 mm, 133 gm, by Cornelius Martens. The front depicts the Calgary Games emblem and raised French and English text, “Calgary 1988, XV Olympic Winter Games”; the reverse bears a panoramic view of Calgary, the Saddledome Stadium, and the Canadian Rocky Mountains, with the Olympic motto below. The front exhibits some slight pitting. Includes its original brown velvet case.
