Description

Marvelous original semi-glossy 10.5 x 12 silver gelatin portrait photo of award-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim, originally taken by noted photographer Cheryl Rossum for Apple Computer’s 1984 Annual Report. The photo depicts Sondheim smiling and seated with his arms folded on a bench next to an upright piano, imagery similar to the report's final result, which shows the musician resting his left elbow on the piano’s side arm. Cloth-matted and framed to an overall size of 17.5 x 21.75.

Included with the photo is the 1984 Annual Report, one of Apple's most iconic early design projects. The report, 68 pages, 9 x 11, is renowned not only for its detailed financial and operational review of a pivotal year in Apple's history, but also for its stylish, innovative design and influential content: this year marked the release of the original Macintosh, a revolutionary product that redefined personal computing. Also notable was a closing section dedicated to “eleven great imaginations,” well-known Macintosh users Jim Henson, Kurt Vonnegut, Ted Turner, Maya Lin, Peter Martins, Milton Glaser, Bob Ciano, Lee Iacocca, Dianne Feinstein, David Rockefeller, and Stephen Sondheim. In overall fine condition, with some slight silvering and discoloration to the bottom of the photograph, and trivial wear to the report.

From the Clement Mok Collection.
