Description

Stunning silver medal from the London 1948 Olympics, the first Summer Games after World War II

Beautiful winner's medal from the London 1948 Summer Olympics. Silver, 51 mm, 68 gm, by Giuseppe Cassioli. The front is inscribed, "XIVth Olympiad, London, 1948," and features a 'Seated Victory' with the Coliseum in the background; the reverse portrays a winner being carried by a parade of jubilant athletes. With just 300 minted and 136 awarded, these lustrous second-place silver winners’ medals from the Games of the XIV Olympiad are as scarce as they are stunning.
