Iconic glossy 7.75 x 7.75 photograph of Albert Einstein with his hands clasped, taken in 1948 by master portrait photographer Yousuf Karsh and printed circa 1990s, with a caption affixed on the reverse: "Albert Einstein, © 1948 Karsh, Ottawa." Also stamped on the reverse: "Received, Apr 28, 1995." In fine condition.
Yousuf Karsh (1908–2002) was a Canadian photographer of Armenian descent. One of the most significant portrait photographers of the 20th century, Karsh was a master of lighting in the studio. A distinctive feature of his work was the separate illumination of the hands of his subjects. Karsh's sitting with Einstein took place at The Institute for Advanced Study, February 11, 1948.
