Scarce original issue of the New York Daily Planet from May 1–15, 1976, 11.5 x 17, which features a front page image of a topless Patti Smith standing in a room at the Chelsea Hotel under large bold banner text: “Patti Smith in a Rage Over Nude Pictures.” The associated article begins on the right side: “Claiming that they are ‘very private pictures’ which Patti Smith herself was to have destroyed, lawyers for the singer-poet threatened the N.Y. Daily Planet with a court injunction to block publication of nude photographs taken of her three years ago at the Chelsea Hotel. Attorney David I. Bursten, who represents Smith and her manager, Jane Friedman, said ‘these are very private pictures taken a long time ago for private use.’ Bursten, a member of the law firm of Delson and Gordon asserted: ‘You have no right to take these into your own hands. They are not public property. There is nothing that puts them into the area of the public.’ Framed to an overall size of 15 x 19. In fine condition, with a small stain near the top.
