Description

(Walt Disney Studios, 1938) Original production drawings featuring W. C. Fields and Charlie McCarthy from Mother Goose Goes Hollywood, which featured Fields as Humpty Dumpty. Grim Natwick supervised the animation of both characters; Marc Davis, one of Walt Disney's 'Nine Old Men,' was his assistant. Davis finished the drawing of Fields and initialed it in the lower right, "MD." Accomplished in graphite and colored pencil on untrimmed 12 x 10 animation paper, marked "B-64-A" and "21" in the lower right corners Images measure 3 x 2 and 1.5 x 2. In overall fine condition.

Featuring appearances by the likes of the Marx Brothers, Clark Gable, Spencer Tracy, Laurel and Hardy, W. C. Fields, and many others, the cartoon was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short, but lost to Disney's own Ferdinand the Bull. Due to its stereotypical racial overtones, it is seldom seen in its entirety.
