Description

Six original drawings by Earle D. Chesney, 9 x 12, each with an affixed caption at the bottom, with numerous cartoons satirizing military life, sometimes portraying humorous interactions between men and women. Among the subjects are: a serviceman on the beach with noticeable tan lines scratching his head, captioned, "In some cases a uniform makes a lot of difference"; a serviceman seated in a cart being pulled by a local; a military general riding a bicycle carrying a briefcase, captioned, "Congress must be serious about economy!!"; a servicewoman standing next to a desk and three servicemen, captioned, "Ensign Smyth reporting, Sir—so you all can be released for sea duty!!!"; a serviceman on a ship who has slipped on board with a serviceman behind him holding a stack of posters titled safety first, captioned, "Do you want a safety poster there, Sir!!"; and a woman conversing with a serviceman on a train, captioned, "The Navy may have difficulty with my son—he loves to sleep late and never has been known to keep an appointment on time!!." Also includes a signed book: Eggburt and Other Navy Cartoons. First edition. NY: Anderson House, 1945.
