Original painting of President Harry S. Truman by American portraitist and writer Norman Garbo, accomplished in oil on 24 x 36 stretched canvas, signed in the lower right corner in red paint by the artist, "Garbo." In very good to fine condition, with a small scuff touching the top of Truman's head, and other minor areas of paint loss toward the bottom.
Norman Garbo (1919–2017) was an American portrait painter, author, and lecturer. After graduating from City College, he studied at the New York Academy of Fine Art starting in 1937. He began working as a portrait painter in 1941, four years prior to the start of Truman’s presidency, and also enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces, where he achieved the rank of lieutenant
