Description

Vintage circa 1964 Rolling Stones fan club card, 5.5 x 4.25, signed and inscribed on the front in blue ballpoint, “To Katie, Lots of love, Brian Jones, xxx.” The card features the same image used for the cover of the band’s self-titled debut EP, which Decca released in January 1964 to test the commercial appeal of the Rolling Stones before they would commit to producing a full album. In very good to fine condition, with a fold, and small stains, across the bottom edge.

Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks and by a letter of provenance from the original recipient: “In early 1964 I had taken my new bicycle to school, and with a couple of friends we would visit the Town Hall and the Everyman cinema, where visiting groups rehearsed in the afternoons. I had a five year Diary for that period. The entry for Saturday March 15th 1964 said ‘Tried to find B Jones's home -unsuccessful.’ The entry for Sunday March 16th 1964 says ‘found Brian Jones's home.’ We must have been a dreadful nuisance to Brian's Mum and Dad, because we visited whenever we could. Finally, on Monday May 11th 1964, the entry reads ‘Went zooming to Jones's house - Mrs was v. nice and asked us to come in – THERE WAS BRIAN – he was terribly nice – I'm now a Stones fan.”
