Vintage glossy 8.5 x 6.5 publicity photo of the Beatles wearing their classic gray collarless suits while performing on the BBC documentary Mersey Sound at the Little Theatre in Southport, on August 27, 1963. The reverse bears printed caption text from the BBC Television Service dated to September 1963, which reads: “Dom Howarth of the BBC’s North Region has produced a documentary about the wave of small musical groups which have sprung up in and around Liverpool in the wake of the overwhelming success of The Beatles.” In fine condition, with scattered small creases. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Tracks.
The Beatles played six consecutive dates at the Odeon Cinema in the English seaside town of Southport on August 26-31, 1963, playing two sold-out shows each night of their residency, and marking the third consecutive week where the Beatles were the featured band at a local cinema. During the same week, the Beatles were filmed as the featured act in a documentary for BBC television titled The Mersey Sound.
