The Peekskill meteorite event was one of the most well-documented in history. A total of 16 videos were recorded from New York as the meteorite was entering the Earth's atmosphere on October 9th, 1992. The main mass ended up hitting the trunk of a red Chevrolet Malibu that then was sold for half as much as the meteorite itself and made a tour around the world. Peekskill is classified as an H6 chondrite and will live in the memory of the New York residents who that day were looking up to the sky. This specimen is a slice in which the matrix can be seen together with the fusion crust on its edge, the burnt layer of material on the outside of the meteorite generated by the heat and pressure on its descent.
