Two items signed by Taney: an ALS signed "R. B. Taney," one page, 7.5 x 9, concerning a legal case involving a "promissory note made and declined by the defendants," also endorsed on the reverse by Taney; and an ALS signed "R. B. Taney, Chief Justice of the Sup. Ct. U.S.," one page, 4.5 x 7, January 12, 1861, responding to a request for an autograph, in part: "I write this note to comply with your request for my autograph." In fine condition, with a small edge chip to the document. Accompanied by an engraved portrait of Taney.
