Graded by PSA VG 3. An outstanding example of the iconic Topps baseball card from Roger Maris's record-breaking season, boldly signed in black felt tip by the onetime single-season home run king. The card boasts excellent colors and an even glossy sheen, with dings to the corners detracting from its technical grade; featuring an exemplary autograph, it presents with excellent eye appeal.
In 1961, New York Yankees teammates Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle captivated the nation with a fierce home run race as they chased Babe Ruth’s long-standing record of 60 home runs in a season. Mantle, hampered by injuries late in the year, fell behind while Maris continued his pursuit. On October 1, 1961, Maris hit his 61st home run, surpassing Ruth and setting a new single-season record that stood for decades.
